AD707 is a 100% solids epoxy used as a base coat and if decorative chips are used, this coat receives those chips. AD707 can also be applied to properly prepared concrete without the use of a primer but we do not recommend it. Our company also, installs floors and we do not install any without primer. Just about all our competitors sell kits that don’t suggest primers and I suspect it is to keep cost down for customers. If a cost comparison is done you will notice the prices of their kits are more expensive when comparing pound for pound of material. Their kits may be half the cost but you are getting less than half the material.
AD707 is easiest applied with wearing spiked shoes, and pushing it out with a squeegee then back rolling over it making it an even cover over the entire floor. Most floors have saw cuts which makes it a little cumbersome when applying AD707. You want to avoid getting AD707 in the cracks. The reason is so there is more material on your floor where it matters. If you poured too much and after squeegeeing it out and rolling it out you find there is too much then simply transfer the material from the roller nap to a section of the floor that has no material. Continue this until you feel it is evened out. If you are doing a two car garage with four sections, i.e. expansion cuts down the middle, then work each section equally. This is not allows and exact method but will get you very close.
A squeegee is not required but will assure a more easily complete coverage. You can always pour small amounts in each square, one at a time, and roll the heck out of it until that section is done. If you have any material left in the bucket pour it on floor and roll it out. Use it up.
When mixing this material make sure to mix very well. A 1-2 minute mix is generally good enough. Mix for a bit then take a paint stick and scrape the sides of the bucket to ensure unmixed resin is not sticking to the side. Mix until you see no swirls marks. If the material is not mixed well there will be spots on the floor that just won’t set up. This is rare if you mix well but can be a pain and slow your project, so just make sure you mix very well.
Another very important tip with this material, as with all 100% solids epoxy, it sets up pretty fast. You have plenty of time but don’t think you can mix 1.5 gals or 3 gals and then take your time cutting in, because you can’t! It will get hard after about 15-20 minutes. Pour it out on the floor and cut-in all inside corners. No need to do outside corners and edges, a 9” roller will get right up against the wall just fine. A cut in brush is used around the garage door track and other tight areas. Then use an 18” roller to roll out the major areas of the floor. Material will set up faster in the bucket that when it is on the floor waiting to be spread out.
