Chip Flake Broadcast / Quartz Broadcast

There are many options when it comes to coating a typical garage or basement floor. The Chip Flake Flooring system is by far the most popular.  A chip flake floor is a high build or thin build  floor system with decorative flakes added under the top coat.  If a floor is slightly pitted or spalled, a heavy build of primer and/epoxy along with chip flakes can hide many or all imperfections while providing a long lasting showroom look floor.

One consideration for choosing certain products is odor. If odor is a concern, such as in a basement or commercial application where customers or employees may be around during application, then a water based epoxy primer, AD10 or a High solids primer such as AD0LVP, and a 100% solids epoxy AD77, will be the best choice along with a water based, high solids urethane, or 100% solids epoxy (AD127MUV) topcoat.

View crack filler products for joint filler and crack repair if needed. Also view all data sheets before purchasing and remember the spread rates to determine how much you will need.

Flakes are added to the wet epoxy just below the clear topcoat by using spiked shoes and walking out over the wet epoxy to broadcast.
Chips can be used in decorative floors in schools, offices, medical facilities, commercial buildings, and residential garages and basements. Just to name a few.  Choose from our assortment of pre-blended chip patterns or create your own custom blend.

Best way to calculate the amount of chips needed is to multiply the square footage by .01 or .02 for a light to medium coverage, .04 for a heavier coverage, and.05 to .075 for a very heavy coverage.  The more chips the more your floor will have that faux granite look and will add a more skip resistant feel.  Most common is a medium/heavy broadcast amount which is .03 x sqft.  with a complementary base coat.

To estimate amount needed multiply sq/ft to be covered by how thick you want it applied multiplied by 8. This will give you the pounds required. Example: A 1200 sq/ft room x 1/8"thick x 8 = 1200 lbs.

Quartz granules combine the strength and durability of pure crystalline silica with a high-performance color coating to complement seamless flooring with brilliant color and long life.

Enhanced performance and striking appearance can be achieved on seamless floors with Quartz granules. Applications span light industrial, commercial and institutional, including automotive showrooms, banks, cafeterias, churches, clean rooms, food processing plants, hospitals, kitchens, laboratories, schools and stadiums.

Quartz granules are made from pure silica sand or quartz. Silica- a hard, abrasion-resistant and chemically inert material is idea for use in flooring. Its high-density and hardness can take a pounding and maintain its good looks.  The granules come in pre-blended batches and sized for broadcasting and not for troweling even though you could if the epoxy to quartz ratio is at least #40 lbs per gallon.

Most Popular Broadcast System
Properly prepare floor with acid etching or mechanical preparation if available, For best results apply one medium coat (150 sqft per gal) of AD127 and broadcast into that, then repeat. If a thicker build is desired then a third coat can be applied and again, quartz broadcasted into that third coat. Once desired build is obtained top coat with clear AD311 or for a smoother finish topcoat with AD127MUV. AD127MUV is applied with a squeegee and roller and that can then be top coated with AD311 for maximum protection.

Broadcast Coats

AD127 is our best-selling clear 100% solids epoxy. This product exhibits excellent UV resistance characteristics, as well as excellent clarity and strength. AD127M can be top coated with AD311 Clear for additional UV stability & chemical resistance.

AD127MUV is our best-selling UV stable 100% solids clear epoxy. AD127MUV exhibits excellent wear characteristics, clarity, ease of use, and UV stability is the benchmark UV rating in the industry. (New formula in 2007)  Can use as a broadcast coat and top coat.

AD370 is a quick-set clear 100% solids epoxy. This product is ideal when turnaround time is an issue, as it can be top coated in 6-9 hours at 70 degrees F. Experienced installers should only use this product.

Epoxy Top Coat

AD127MUV is our best-selling 100% solids clear epoxy. Use for high build when you want little to no texture from the broadcasted aggregate.

Urethane Top Coats

AD311 is a top-of-the-line, solvent-based, two-component, aliphatic urethane topcoat. This product exhibits excellent UV stability, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, and flexibility. AD311 can be used in many facilities, including warehouses, manufacturing facilities, aircraft hangars, auto service centers, and many more. For a system with better long-term wear, and for high-traffic areas, we recommend adding our HWS aggregate. One pint per gal for average non-skid protection.

AD348 High Performance Urethane is a three component aliphatic urethane floor finish that exhibits excellent characteristics for abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, flexibility, weathering and UV stability.  Recommended for auto service centers, warehouses, computer rooms, laboratories, aircraft hangers, cafeterias, indoor or outdoor service and chemical exposure areas.  This product must go on at recommended thickness to prevent fish eyes.

AD339 - AD339 is a two component 100% solids polyaspartic aliphatic urethane seamless binder for broadcast systems. This material can be used with dried colored sand mixtures to provide an infinite array of color schemes or patterns. AD339 has excellent chemical resistance, hardness, abrasion resistance, UV stability and has an excellent clear gardner color. However, the outstanding feature of this product is its exceptionally quick tack free time of around 1-2 hours for foot traffic while providing the applicator about a 15-20 min. pot life to work with the material.  Experienced installers should only use this product.
