Urethane Systems and Thin Build

Urethane is recommended for use as an abrasion resistant coating under heavy traffic conditions because of the long wear benefits and attractive high gloss features.

Thin build systems don't differ much in way of performance as that of high build systems. They both offer long lasting durability and resistance to chemicals, however, thin build systems requires a much smoother substrate. If the substrate is porous or defected with small cracks or pits then a high build floor would hide the imperfections. Whereas a thin build system would be more likely to show through those areas that had imperfections.

If there are cracks or pits in the substrate AD811 joint/crack filler can repair those areas. After repairing cracks and filling joints and prior to application of either thin or high build system, it is recommended that the substrate be primed with an appropriate water based or solvent based epoxy primer.

Brochure Information

Best selling thin build system is one or two coats of AD134 and one or two coats of AD311 urethane top coat.  If odor is an issue AD10 will work but the highest performer will be AD348.

Thin  build systems are great for a garage floor that is in good shape and only acid etched. Depending on the condition of the floor and preparation method Oil Stop Primer AD810 may be the best choice for a primer because it exhibits unmatched adhesion into concrete that is contaminated with oil. It is always best to remove all oil but if the concrete still has signs left after cleaning AD810 is unbeatable.

Primers

AD5 is a water-based epoxy with a mixed VOC of 1.01 pounds per gallon, and emits no offensive odors. It is an ideal primer for a thin-mil system where VOC is an issue. AD5 may also be used as a one-coat, stand-alone solution for a customer looking for beautifying, dust proofing, cleanability, and some protection in a foot traffic area. AD5 is a ‘breathable’ coating as a stand-alone, one-coat application, meaning that some vapor transmission will not cause this coating to pop off.

AD134 is a solvent-based epoxy primer that is a cost-effective, high-quality primer for a system where VOC is not an issue. AD144 is the clear version of this product.

AD10 - AD10 is a two component water based epoxy sealer/primer that exhibits characteristics that rival solvent based products. AD10 has superb chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and substrate penetration.

AD810 Oil Stop Primer - This product exhibits excellent characteristics for coating over petroleum-based oil contaminated concrete. It allows for excellent substrate penetration that results in outstanding adhesion. It is an ideal primer for automobile service bays or machine shop floors prior to applying a suitable flooring system. Topcoats

Urethane Top Coat

AD20 is a water-based aliphatic urethane topcoat designed to provide excellent abrasion resistance without the typical odors associated with an aliphatic urethane. This product also has an extremely long pot life, and a lightning-fast cure time. At 70 degrees F, the floor can generally be opened to foot traffic in 3-4 hours. AD20 is not recommended for heavy traffic areas.

AD311 is a top-of-the-line, solvent-based, two-component, aliphatic urethane topcoat. This product exhibits excellent UV stability, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, and flexibility. AD311 can be used in many facilities, including warehouses, manufacturing facilities, aircraft hangars, auto service centers, and many more. For a system with better long-term wear, and for high-traffic areas, we recommend adding our HWS aggregate.

AD348 High Performance Urethane is a three component aliphatic urethane floor finish that exhibits excellent characteristics for abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, flexibility, weathering and UV stability.  Recommended for auto service centers, warehouses, computer rooms, laboratories, aircraft hangers, cafeterias, indoor or outdoor service and chemical exposure areas.  This product must go on at recommended thickness to prevent fish eyes.

AD339 - AD339 is a two component 100% solids polyaspartic aliphatic urethane seamless binder for broadcast systems. This material can be used with dried colored sand mixtures to provide an infinite array of color schemes or patterns. AD339 has excellent chemical resistance, hardness, abrasion resistance, UV stability and has an excellent clear gardner color. However, the outstanding feature of this product is its exceptionally quick tack free time of around 1-2 hours for foot traffic while providing the applicator about a 15-20 min. pot life to work with the material.
